Ultraschall Verfahren/Ultrasonic Procedure
Sanitization using ultrasound is widespread and is used to clean metal and synthetic materials in, for example, engineering and the jewelery industry. Ultrasound sanitization always occurs in a liquid form (for example, water with a cleaning agent).
The energy released by the ultrasound generator (a frequency area of more than 20 kHz) is transformed into mechanical energy through the oscilator. The molecular connection of the liquid at the available inhomogeneity (contamination, the object in question) is disrupted using sound pressure amplitude. The smallest, unstable vesicles then accumulate in the cleaning fluid. These vesicles implode and generate powerful pressure pulses.
This occurrence is known as cavitation. Cavitation causes a gentle and intensive clean in all the spots that the cleaning fluid can reach.
To achieve an effective clean using ultrasound, a cleaning fluid must be found that can etch the dirt off the object, so the ultrasound can then remove the contamination.

Choosing a suitable cleaner is largely dependent on the following factors:
- Material of the object
- Type of contamination
- Amount of adhesive contamination
Fundamentally, what counts is that the use of mild, neutral compounds or universal cleaning compounds is considered ahead of the use of alcaline or acidic compounds.
Some cleaning requirments can only be tackled with speacialty cleaning solutions. These requirments are met through a specific formulation (e.g. through complexing-agent-free compounds for labarotories and electroplating, the optical industry and for the application of high-vacuum).

Tips
Which ultrasound device should I choose?
The size of the object to be cleaned ascertains the size of the tray and hence the recommended device type. One should also pay attention to the basket dimensions when deciding on which device to buy.
Deciding on a somewhat larger device is advisable, to avoid overstressing. This way, there is also more leeway for other uses which could pop up in the future.
Does an ultrasound device have to have a heater?
Heated cleaning fluid shortens cleaning time. Contamination is more quickly removed in heated liquids. For cleaning in a laboratory, a device with a heater installed is generally used.
Do not heat disinfection fluid, at 40°C or over it could cause an egg white focculation, which complicates the sanitization and disinfection. Devices without a heater installed are generally used.
Which accessories are required?
The cleaning object and the reaction tube should never lie on the floor of the tray. A restoration basket prevents the object and tray floor from being scratched. The application tube for the cleaning of smaller pieces, or to work with aggressive solutions, are hung through holes in the cap. The application of hanging trays, made up of synthetic materials, are necessary for working with acids or when acid risidule needs to be removed.
Which fluids should be used?
In ultrasound devices, EMAG- ELMA- TICKOPUR- and STAMMOPUR-compounds are used, which are specially developed for the use in an ultrasonic bath. Water without cleaning agents is limited in its cleaning abilities. A houshold cleaning agent or deionized water should not be used.

The Main Principle
How does a sanitization take place with ultrasound?
Ultrasound expands itself fluidly in the form of a longitudinal shaft. Due to excess pressure, condensations and dilutions can occur. The tractive forces in the suction phase of the oscillation (dilution) can disrupt the fluid - a so-called cavitation occurs. Dilution procedures are accelerated; the resulting currents and turbulence in the fluid beats the grime.
